IID Con

During the IID conference, I actually had an amazing experience. Listening to so many successful designers share their knowledge and experience was the extremely reassuring to an upcoming designer. One of the most interesting things was hearing how everyone was willing to find jobs that fit their skills and morals. I found that hearing how willing they were to leave a position if they felt like they were being mistreated. During the downtime, I was able to ask the speakers some interesting questions. The first person I was able to ask a question was Bri Piccari. What's interesting is I've seen Bri speak a couple of times now, and she always does such an amazing job. So I was wondering what made her so comfortable with sharing her story with so many people? She answered with, “ It never gets easy, I always get the jitters. But once I get up there and see so many people looking at me intensively it becomes as simple as a one on one conversation”. The next speaker I was able to talk to was Todd Miller. Now Todd had a special place in my heart since we shared a mutual love for Wawa. I would hope he loved Wawa since that's where he spends all his time due to his employment. Which leads me to question why he decided to settle on Wawa? He gave one of the best answers. He said “ I wanted to work for a company that people loved and were devoted to. Not everyone would get a brand logo tattooed on their body. So clearly Wawa has some of the best customers and working for a company like that just makes me happy. After Todd, I decided to talk to Kristine & Phil Newswanger. The most interesting thing to me about these two was the fact that they spent so much time together. So I wanted to know how they were able to balance work and life, and not have personal issues cross over into the workplace? They answered, “We have been doing this for so long we don't even remember. Each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses that we just compliment each other and make a great pair”. And last but not least I talked to Doug Logan. Just by watching his presentation I saw that he was extremely organized, His presentation showed so many different techniques and they all were focused around being organized. Hence my question, How important is it to be organized? At first, He laughed, Then answered with, “ everyone has their own personal technique. I know I personally can't function with stuff everywhere, but some people love it so it ranges depending on the person”.
